10 Fun Activities To Do At Home With The Kids
As we enter another period of lockdown, we understand a lot of parents are faced with the challenge of keeping the kids occupied at home.
Here’s 10 educational, active and fun activities you can try to keep them busy.
1. Dance Party
Dancing is a great way to keep moving despite being on lockdown. Turn on your child’s favourite song or playlist and let them dance the day away. You could also try and learn a new dance routine, there’s plenty to choose from on YouTube, so they (and you!) are keeping active and learning at the same time.
2. Obstacle Course
Create an obstacle course using furniture around the house. A great start would be using the living room sofa cushions. Your child can then add in new obstacles thinking of items that they can use to climb, go under, wind around, crawl through, and jump over.
To make the course more challenging add in specific mental or physical challenges to keep your child guessing and on their toes. A good example would be a puzzle/quiz to challenge to get them thinking.
3. Balloon Ball
There are endless ways to play with balloons indoors. A classic balloon game that is perfect to play indoors is Keep It Moving. Try to keep the balloon off the ground for long periods of time using your hands or feet. Make sure you have plenty of space around you and there’s fragile items around.
You could also practice your hand-eye co-ordination by playing throw and catch with the balloon.
4. Clean-Up Race
A good start would be your child’s bedroom! Set a timer, put on a fun song and see how quick they can tidy their room. Make sure they are putting things back into the right place, making their bed, opening the curtains and maybe get the hoover out. This is a great way to encourage your child to start a healthy habit and something they can continue for years to come.
5. Follow The Leader
Start by being the leader with easy movements for your child to follow. It’s a great way keep active and get your daily workout. Here's a few ideas you could include:
- Jumping
- Stomping
- Squatting
- Clapping
- Jumping Jacks
- Kicks
After you have completed all the movements, let your child have a go at being the leader!
6. Finger Painting
Get your paint ready and the only thing you need is your fingers! Things could get messy, so make sure you have a wet cloth and a towel on hand and both you and your children are wearing old clothes.
7. Indoor Fashion Show
Let your child dress up in their favourite clothes or fancy-dress outfit and walk down the catwalk. Don’t forget to get them strike a unique pose at the end!
8. Hide And Seek
A classic game to play! Choose one person to be the seeker, while the rest go and hide! Give everyone at least 30 seconds to find a good hiding spot in the house then get seeking. Once you have been found you then become the seeker. The last one not to be found wins!
9. Bake A Cake
Get the recipe ready and get baking! The kids can help with measuring out the ingredients and mixing together ready for baking! Once the cake is ready, its time to have fun and get creative decorating with your favourite toppings!
10. Drawing And Colouring-In
Grab your coloured pens, pencils, crayons and some paper and let your little ones get creative!
Ask your child to write on small pieces of paper different things they could draw such as a car, planes or flowers. Fold these up and pop them in a jar that they can pick from each day!
