Surf City Re-opens!

We are reopening our Surf City Leisure pool after a refurb which includes a faster flowing lazy river, extra powerful wave machine, an upgraded baby pool and disability-friendly zone with a disabled hoist swimming pool lift.

The new look Surf City will re-open on Monday 31st January for a host of activities including leisure swimming, accessible sessions, social swims, ladies only, Little Swimmers for under five year olds, swimming lessons and new dementia friendly sessions.*

Andrew Snelling, our Chief Executive said: “We are very pleased to be reopening the new look Surf City with new features and improved disability activities which we took the opportunity to upgrade while essential maintenance work was being carried out.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the residents of Sheffield and surrounding areas back into the leisure pool and bookings will re-open at 12 noon on Wednesday January 26th”.

Ponds Forge also sees over 500 children attend swimming lessons each week on its Swim England, Learn to Swim programme and welcomes over 850,000 visitors to Sheffield each year, with its comprehensive event programme generating over £10m per year to the local economy.

“These new features and extra sessions will entice more people through our doors complementing our other offerings, like at Hillsborough Leisure Centre, which is part of the trust’s philosophy to ensure that we provide facilities for everyone in our communities across the city” added Andrew.

All other areas of Ponds Forge have remained open with the venue hosting regional swimming competitions alongside our continuing Learn to Swim programme, community swimmers and Sheffield based aquatic clubs. The venue has also hosted many events like Sheffield Hallam University graduations, welcoming around 50,000 people throughout the last six months.
