Hillsborough Pool Closure FAQs
Q. What will happen to my/my child’s swimming lessons?
A. We have created additional swimming lessons at Concord Sports Centre, Ponds Forge and Springs Leisure Centre with the aim of relocating as many customers as possible. We will also have some limited availability in lessons at our other pools.
Q. When will I find out about my/my child’s lesson relocation options?
A. All customers will be contacted via email regarding their options for transferring or cancelling lessons. A letter will also be handed out in venue confirming this information. Please make sure that your contact details are up to date with us. We recommend adding our email address (info@sheffieldcitytrust.org) to your contacts list and marking our emails as safe to prevent them being delivered to your junk folder.
Q. Will I/my child have the same teacher?
A. The swimming teachers at Hillsborough Leisure Centre will be moving to our other venues to cover the relocated lessons. A full timetable of lessons including teachers will be provided to customers in the new year to assist with choosing your new lesson. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will have the same teacher that you currently have.
Q. Will my/my child’s swimming lesson be delivered in the same way at the new venue?
A. All our swimming teachers deliver to the same teaching plan. Due to the dimensions of our swimming pools, you may find the depth and distance of your child’s swimming pod different to what they currently experience at Hillsborough Leisure Centre. The swim teachers will be aware of these changes and will be preparing the children ready for the relocation in February.
Q. My child has almost passed their current level, will I be able to relocate to the next stage?
A. Our swimming teachers will continue to assess your child as normal throughout this process both leading up to the pool closure and during your relocated lessons. Your child’s electronic progress record will remain live and transfer with them to their new venue and teacher. If your child is close to passing their current stage before the relocation of lessons, you can discuss with our Programme Supervisor what stage they recommend you booking for the relocation.
Q. Will the relocation of my/my child’s swimming lesson slow down my progress?
A. We aim to make the relocation of lessons as seamless as possible to ensure that skill development and progress isn’t impacted. Your progress report will transfer with you/your child to the new lesson so should you be allocated a new teacher they will continue to complete the progress report.
Q. What if the new lesson timetable doesn’t suit my/my child’s availability?
A. We are increasing our swimming lesson availability across our other venues to offer customers as wide a choice as possible when relocating lessons. Should the lesson availability not be suitable you will have the option to cancel your coached membership with us. We will contact you when we reopen with our timetable of lessons and availability should you wish to rejoin.
Q. When the pool at Hillsborough Leisure Centre reopens, will I be able to transfer back to my/my child’s current lesson?
A. We will be in touch with all customers who relocated or cancelled their coached membership prior to the pool at Hillsborough Leisure Centre reopening to arrange for their lessons to be transferred back should they wish to do so. During the pool closure we will be reviewing our swimming lesson timetable and we expect many swimmers to progress to the next stage, so we cannot guarantee that you/your child will be offered the same day/time of their current lesson when the pool reopens.
Q. Will the relocation of my lessons result in a change to my swimming lesson payment?
A. Our swimming lesson prices are standard across all our pools so your payments will be unaffected by relocating your lessons to another venue.
Q. I’m currently on the waiting list for lessons at Hillsborough Leisure Centre, what will the closure mean for places becoming available?
A. Due to the closure of the swimming pool at Hillsborough Leisure Centre we are unable to offer any new places on our swimming lesson programme at this venue until Summer 2023. All customers currently on the waiting list will be contacted as soon as possible with the options available to them.
