Stress Awareness Month

April 2022

What is Stress Awareness Month?

Stress awareness month has been held every April since 1992 to raise awareness of the effects that stress can have on people's wellness, and what can be done to combat it.

According to the Mental Health Foundation, in 2021, 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed at some point they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.

Stress can impact us all as it is our body’s natural response to dealing with pressure. But too much stress over a long period of time can have a significant impact on our overall health and wellbeing. So, it’s really important we find ways to manage our own stress and look out for the signs that those around us may be struggling.

Recognising the ‘red flags’ of stress can help us spot when someone may need support. Symptomes of stress include:

Physical Symptoms of Stress

Tiredness

Headache

A change in eating habits

Shaking & dizziness

Skin breakouts

Sweating more than usual

Finding it hard to sleep

Mental & Emotional Symptoms of Stress

Feeling anxious, worried, or scared

Irritability

Difficulty concentrating

Lack of self-confidence

Feeling under pressure

Uninterested in life
